President’s Letter- May 2022
Greetings everyone, looks like we are finally going to get some nice weather for all of our projects we currently have underway!
Our April Kentucky Derby event at Harrahs Casino in Joliet turned out to be a really fun evening, with a large turn out of 150 people! Greater Illinois Title’s horse took the win in the races and Dick Searl’s won the $2500! Mark Scaggs was the highest ticket seller with 56 tickets! Thank you to all of our sponsors and Committee Members who participated in making the this years Kentucky Derby enjoyable, as well as successful! See photos on page 7.
The Train Crawl is our next event! Friday May 20th we will Ride the Rock Island line from Joliet and make stops in Mokena and Tinley, and then head back to Joliet. Be sure to sign up for this fun and social event!
After the Train Crawl will be our Annual Golf Outing on June 15th. We are more than half sold out so please register ASAP! We are in need of sponsors in all categories!
As much as we enjoy the social aspect of our association, help is needed from time to time to protect the building industry. Recently, NAHB sent a strong message to the Biden administration to take immediate action to address the issues that threaten to derail the current housing and economic expansion.
Members were asked to sign a letter to be sent and thanks to the effort, more than 10,000 signatures were received on the letter from members and home builders associations in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. Many people called, emailed, and the communication outreach efforts have paid off. View the final letter with the signatories on nahb.org/letter.
In closing, I’d like to remind everyone that we’re in a long term membership drive. Members can earn up to 4x the spikes and the SSHBA will earn as much as $2,000 for new members gained this year. We stand by our motto “Build With a Member” so if you work with anyone not a member, this is a great time to bring them on!
Thank you and God Bless you all.
Brian Wille

The Kentucky Derby Raffle is one of the largest events the SSHBA hosts. For the 200 people attending in past years, the event is always very exciting, businesses flourish with many new found relationships and its most definitely full of good, old fashion “fun”.
This year’s event promises to be better than ever. The Kentucky Derby Raffle will be held on Friday, April 29th, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Harrah’s Casino in Joliet, IL. The Grand Prize this year is $2,500 (based on a minimum of 250 tickets sold).
An $85 ticket entitles the holder to a chance at the $2,500 prize, buffet, and open bar for 3 hours. This event has proven itself, year after year, to be a serious, networking opportunity to expand your business.
Returning this year, you again can race a wooden horse! Paint/decorate it yourself or sponsor a pre-decorated horse to be “raced” that night! Call our office ASAP for details and to get your name on the list as we need to get the horses to sponsors very soon! Spectators will “bet” on horses to win by purchasing raffle tickets to which can be used to win any of our amazing raffle prizes. New this year, buy raffle tickets in advance. For $20 you can have a “horse leg” length of tickets waiting for you at registration!
We are in need of a few more sponsors for our event as well. Please check out the flyer below and let us know if you are willing to help!
Last but not least, there will again be a contest for ladies’ best hat and men’s best dressed. The winner in each category will win $50 so start putting together your best Derby outfit!!
Your two raffle tickets have been mailed out to you and should arrive soon. They are all numbered and assigned individually so please do your best not to lose them. Tickets may be purchased by filling out the ticket stubs and returning them with a check made out to: “SSHBA” or registering through the link posted above. If mailing, please be sure to mark on the ticket stub if you will be attending the event. Winner of grand prize drawing need not be present to win.
Please have your purchased tickets sent to the SSHBA Office by no later than Thursday, April 21st, 2022.

President’s Letter- February
Greetings everyone, I hope your all doing well this winter and hopefully some spring like weather is around the corner. I hope everyone enjoyed IBS In Orlando , I look forward to hearing all about it!
January events included the PWB Sip and Paint which I’m told was a success! I heard there was a great turn out and a good time was had by all. Our other event was the chili cook off hosted by Chad Kurtz, Owner of Brakur cabinets in Shorewood. Chad and company did a great job setting up their beautiful showroom up perfectly for what was a great party. There were many excellent chili entries with Sherry Wille taking first place with her organic grass fed beef chili, and Chad with a close second with his fantastic Pheasant chili. We had a big turn out for this event which gave us an opportunity to check out Brakur’s beautiful cabinetry and enjoy the fellowship of other members.
Coming in March we will have an Economic Forecast with Danielle Leach of Zonda Advisory. She did our Economic Forecast in 2019 and gave a great presentation so this will be good for sure. Registration is open and the flyer will be posted on page 6 for details. Please mark your calendars for the Kentucky Derby Event that will be on Friday April 29th! Keep your eyes out for the Kentucky Derby Raffle information that will be coming out soon!
Tales from the SSHBA- March 2022
We are a couple months into 2022 and are off to a great start already.
SSHBA Member U.S. Bank started our year of events off with a Lunch & Learn teaching us all about their programs for construction and lot loans.
Next, our Professional Women in Building Council held a Sip & Paint at Bloom Art Studio in Mokena, IL
To end the month of January was our highly anticipated Chili Cook Off hosted by Brakur Custom Cabinetry in Shorewood, IL We had 8 amazing contestants but ultimately our winners were Chad Kurtz from Brakur and Sherry Wille from Brian Wille Construction
The month of February was quiet around our office but not in Orlando, FL where many members attended the International Builder Show! IBS is always a great spot to learn about new industry trends and learn about what’s happening in the world of residential home building. Stay tuned for next year which will be in Las Vegas!
Speaking about what’s going on in the industry, we just recently held our 2022 Economic Forecast last week. Danielle Leach of Zonda Advisory presented to over 60 SSHBA members and gave us a great outlook on what’s happened and what may be to come. Special thank you to Silver Lake Country Club in Orland Park, IL for providing us with a lovely venue and, as always, delicious meal!
