Wood Street Cabinet, Inc. is a family-owned business which originally began as J. Powless Fine Cabinetry in the 1990’s by Joel Powless out of the garage in his home. Eventually the business grew and in the early 2000’s, J. Powless Fine Cabinetry moved into a shop in New Lenox. The company held strong throughout the recession of 2008, and J. Powless Fine Cabinetry was rebranded into Wood Street Cabinet, Inc. In the Fall of 2021, they opened the Mokena showroom.
While the New Lenox location is still running, it is used for producing all the custom-made products you can see in the Mokena showroom. Most of the clients that come to Wood Street Cabinet, Inc. are through referrals or other vendors. They have an incredibly detailed and hands-on process for making sure all clients are creating the room of their dreams.
Wood Street Cabinet, Inc. has been a part of the SSHBA since 2021, with Kelsey Klahn and Meg Powless as members of both SSHBA and PWB. Meg is the daughter of owner Joel Powless and has learned the business from her father over the years of working in the shop and showrooms. Kelsey came to Wood Street Cabinet, Inc. in 2020 with a degree in Interior Design with a focus on Kitchen & Bath design. Both Kelsey and Meg enjoy being members and say that the PWB is an excellent group to help women push through the barriers that exist in the building industry.
