SSHBA Members Rally to Support Hurricane Relief Efforts

December 19, 2024

The SSHBA coordinated a donation of building supplies and materials to the Transylvania Habitat for Humanity in Brevard, North Carolina on Monday, December 16th.

Hines Supply generously donated a truck and driver to bring all materials down to North Carolina. Thanks to our membership’s generosity, we were able to fill a 53″ semi trailer with donated items. Russ Head and Scott Fridrych from Liv Companies, LLC met the truck in North Carolina and assisted in unloading. Habitat for Humanity will soon distribute items received to those in need in the Western North Carolina region. (Link: https://transylvaniahabitat.org/) Together, as a community and an organization, we can help rebuild homes and restore hope for those affected by Hurricane Helene.

The donation of materials is complete, but if you would like to donate monetarily, or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the SSHBA office. Call (708) 349-4242 or email kpayne@sshba.com

January PWB Member Spotlight- Wood Street Cabinet, Inc.

January 31, 2024

Wood Street Cabinet, Inc. is a family-owned business which originally began as J. Powless Fine Cabinetry in the 1990’s by Joel Powless out of the garage in his home. Eventually the business grew and in the early 2000’s, J. Powless Fine Cabinetry moved into a shop in New Lenox. The company held strong throughout the recession of 2008, and J. Powless Fine Cabinetry was rebranded into Wood Street Cabinet, Inc. In the Fall of 2021, they opened the Mokena showroom.

While the New Lenox location is still running, it is used for producing all the custom-made products you can see in the Mokena showroom. Most of the clients that come to Wood Street Cabinet, Inc. are through referrals or other vendors. They have an incredibly detailed and hands-on process for making sure all clients are creating the room of their dreams.

Wood Street Cabinet, Inc. has been a part of the SSHBA since 2021, with Kelsey Klahn and Meg Powless as members of both SSHBA and PWB. Meg is the daughter of owner Joel Powless and has learned the business from her father over the years of working in the shop and showrooms. Kelsey came to Wood Street Cabinet, Inc. in 2020 with a degree in Interior Design with a focus on Kitchen & Bath design. Both Kelsey and Meg enjoy being members and say that the PWB is an excellent group to help women push through the barriers that exist in the building industry.
Visit Wood Street Cabinet, Inc. Mon- Sat: 11am-5pm at 9712 191st St, Mokena, IL 60448 or visit their website at http://www.woodstreetcabinet.com.

Tom McSharry’s Bio

January 10, 2024

Tom McSharry has been on the land development side of residential construction for over 20 years.  As a 2003 graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology, Tom started his career as a Design/Project Engineer focusing on residential and reclamation projects.  In 2005, Tom transitioned from the office to the field, navigating through various municipalities in the Chicago and NW Indiana markets while developing over 5,000 homesites to date.  Tom is currently the Director of Land Development for the Chicago Division of Lennar Homes.

Tom looks forward to serving the SSHBA as its President in 2024.  While 2024 looks like a year of uncertainty, it will also be a year of opportunity.  As an organization, we will identify and take full advantage of each opportunity to strengthen our membership and establish a framework for continued success.  Get ready 2024, here we come!

A Thrilling Tale of the 2023 Autobahn Racing Event

September 21, 2023

Our adventure began at the stunning outdoor Autobahn Country Club track nestled under the open skies. With a picturesque backdrop and a track designed to challenge even the most seasoned racers, it’s no wonder this venue is a hotspot for racing aficionados. The rumbling anticipation among the participants and spectators added to the electric atmosphere.

Walking through the staging area, we’re met with a kaleidoscope of colorful shirts and signs. The camaraderie among competitors is palpable as they share tips, laughter, and stories from previous races.

The heart of any Autobahn event is, of course, the races themselves. Throughout the event, a series of heats and finals unfold, with each lap and each turn filled with heart-stopping action. The sound of engines roaring to life, the screech of tires on asphalt, and the cheers of spectators blend into an intoxicating symphony.

Victory is sweet, but defeat is a potent motivator. The award ceremony is always a moment of triumph and heartbreak, where racers who’ve given their all stand shoulder to shoulder, celebrating the thrill of competition.
