Cubs vs. White Sox Outing at Beyond the Ivy

July 27, 2017

On the morning of July 25th 32 Cub fans, 32 White Sox fans and 1 St. Louis Cardinal fan boarded a bus and headed down to the North Side to take in game 2 of the 2017 Crosstown Cup. With a forecasted temperature of 79 degrees and sunny skies, it was a perfect day for a baseball game. From the second we got on the bus, we all knew this was going to a fun day. The bus started out nice enough, but as the tem went on it became of rival banter. The White Sox fans were in a pretty good mood after winning Monday’s game 3-1, but the Cub contingent were still pretty confident. How could they not be, as they were playing the worst team in the AL and the second worst team in baseball?

Around 12:30 we pulled up to our destination: Beyond the Ivy rooftop. An amazing rooftop venue at 1038 Waveland, located just outside of Wrigley Fields’ left field wall. We unloaded and the bus and everyone went in to stake out their seats for the game. Some chose to go all the way up to the roof to get the full baseball experience, while some chose to hang out in the club area where they could enjoy the A/C and watch the game live or on TV.

Throughout the game, SSHBA members were offered amazing food and drink options through Beyond the Ivy’s all-inclusive menu. People dined on steak, chicken breasts, Italian Beef sandwiches and burgers along with a variety of side dishes like pasta salad and fruit. Of course there was also more traditional ballpark food available in the form of hot dogs and nachos.

As the afternoon wore on it became apparent that to most, what was happening on the field was not as important as the conversations that were taking place off it. Everywhere you walked you saw people eating, drinking, talking, laughing and just having a great time which is exactly what SSHBA events like this are for. At the end of the day though, it was Cub fans that really had a reason to smile as they wound up winning the game by a score of 7-2.

Thank you again to everyone who was able to join us for this fantastic event.

2017 SSHBA Autobahn PAC Fundraiser

July 20, 2017

Buckle in because we’re going racing! Join us Thursday August 17th at 4:00pm at the area’s premiere road racing facility, the Autobahn, for a special driving experience and dinner for the SSHBA members

For only $100, each attendee will be able to get behind the wheel of 50MPH go-kart and show off their amazing driving abilities in the hopes of bringing home the checkered flag for their respective team. After the racing is over, we will enjoy delicious dinner and some cold beverages while you hang out with your fellow drivers and taunt those who finished behind you.

As was the case last year we will be doing the Enduro format race. This style provides a challenging team building experience for even the most competitive groups. Teams prepare their strategies in advance with the goal of completing the most laps in a timed race heat. Live pit stops allow for driver changes and other real racing activities throughout the race. Teams will consist of 6-7 drivers so sign up as a team. If you don’t have enough for a team, you can register as an individual driver and we will place you on a team.

Don’t feel like driving but want to see what the excitement is all about or to cheer for your fellow SSAHB members? Dinner only tickets are available for purchase for $65.

The deadline to register is August 10th and there is a maximum number of drivers we can take for this event so register today.

Feel free to contact us at (708)349-4242 with any questions.

The Autobahn Country Club is located at 3795 CenterPoint Way, Joliet, IL 60436.

We look forward to seeing everyone there!

2017 SSHBA Raffle

July 11, 2017

We are pleased to announce the SSHBA 2017 Raffle. This year’s raffle drawing will take place on Friday, October 13 and will have an Octoberfest theme.

If you have participated in our raffle in the past, here are a few things you should know about this year as we are doing things a little bit differently. This year the theme of raffle will Octoberfest. October also happens to be National Breast Cancer Awareness month and because of this, we have teamed up with the organization Team Happyfeet.

Team Happyfeet is based in the Southwest Suburbs and focuses on raising money to support education and research of breast cancer.  Additionally, they aim to provide medical and non-medical financial assistance to those with a proven need who are currently battling breast cancer. A portion of the profits from all ticket sales will be donated to Team Happyfeet to aid them in their tireless efforts.

This year we are selling two different types of tickets the standard pink tickets, as well as white tickets. The pink tickets cost $50 each and they get the buyer one entry per ticket into the raffle to win a minimum of $2,500. The white tickets will cost $100 each and include not only an entry into the raffle, but also admission into our Octoberfest event at Embers Tap House. There will be great food, strong drinks, a live band, and prize giveaways galore. This event is also where the winner of the raffle will be announced, and prove that Friday the 13th isn’t bad luck for everyone.

New to 2017 is a ticket sales contest exclusively for SSHBA members.  To win the contest, just sell the largest number of pink tickets. The winner will receive their choice of either a free admission ticket to the Octoberfest event, or its cash equivalent of $100. During your ticket selling, please let all ticket buyers know that the winner does not have to be present at Embers to win. If you would like to participate in this contest, please contact the SSHBA and we will provide you 25 tickets to start.

We are expecting this event being a huge success and are looking forward to everyone’s’ participation. So put an appointment on your calendar to come out on October 13th and celebrate Octoberfest all while supporting Team Happyfeet and the battle against Breast Cancer

If you have any questions please call the SSHBA Office at 708-349-4242 or visit www.sshba.com for more information.

We hope to see you there!

The 2017 SSHBA Golf Outing Was a Hit!

June 23, 2017

The Southwest Suburban Home Builders Association held our annual golf outing this Wednesday at the beautiful Silver Lake Country Club. Over 57 foursomes descended on the Orland Park club to enjoy a day of golfing, eating, drinking and networking with current and potential association members. They were much more fortunate than last year’s participants as they were blessed with sunshine and temperatures in the low 80s…perfect golfing weather.

From the start we could tell this event was going to be a success. Golfers came dressed in everything from traditional golf wear to jorts and sandals. At the 9:00 AM shotgun start the groups were off to try and tackle the challenging Silver Lakes courses in a best ball format. In addition to playing for pride, there was a prize up for grabs for the lowest overall score in addition to other contests along the way where people could win fabulous prizes.

The two winners of the lowest score were the foursomes from First American Title and Wille Brothers for which they took home a foursome to play Silver Lake again and more importantly get to call themselves SSHBA Golf Champs for the next year. Additional contest winners included:

North Course

Women’s Long Drive – Lori DuPree – DuPree Construction

Men’s Long Drive – Brian Pelletier – Atlas Roofing

Men’s Long Putt – Dave Sloan – Accents Lighting

South Course

Women’s Long Drive – Darlene Kosin – Greater Illinois Title

Men’s Long Drive – Matt Janis – Ozinga

Women’s Long Putt – Krista Durkin – Ottawa Savings Bank

Men’s Long Putt – Doug Marks – Temperature Equipment Corporation

Women’s Closest to Pin – Cathy Italia – Greater Illinois Title

Men’s Closest to Pin – Dave Landis – A Touch of Green

“Chip into Yeti” -Kelly Rito – Majestic Distributing.

We as an organization would like to extend a very special thank you to the over 50 sponsor companies, from hole sponsors to breakfast sponsors to the all-important beverage cart sponsors for your support and generosity. This event certainly would not have been the success it was without you.

We hope that everyone that came out to play in this year’s golf outing had as much fun as we did hosting it for you.  As you know a good HBA never rests so we are already planning our 2018 golf outing. If you’re looking for stuff to fill your time until then please join us at one of our upcoming events which can be viewed on the SSHBA calendar.
